1. 나는 누구인가?

 What am I?

나는 나의 상태를 확실히 알고 나의 죄로 인해서 겸손해졌는가?

Have I been convinced of my condition, and been humbled for my sin?

나는 진심으로 나를 그리스도께 드렸는가?

Have I heartily given myself to Christ?

나는 정말로 죄를 미워하고 거룩을 사랑하는가?

Have I real hatred of sin, and love of holiness?

 

2. 나는 무엇을 했는가?

Waht have I done?

시간을 소흘히 사용했다.

Time trifled!

기회를 상실했다.

opportunities lost!

약속을 어겼다.

engagements broken.

대화는 무익했다.

conversation unporfitable!

하나님과 의무를 잊었다.

fogetfulness of God and of duty!

 

3. 어떤 원칙으로 이 일을 할 것인가?

From what principles do I undertake this work?

하나님께서 목회 제도를 제정하셨다는 사실을 알므로 나는 이 일을 위해서는 하나님의 부르심이 필요하다는 것을 믿는다. 이는 하나님을 위한 열심과 귀한 영혼에 대한 사랑에서 나온 것이다.

 I trust from a persnasion of the Divine institution of the Ministry, of the necessity of a Divine call, and of my call to the work: from zeal to God, and love to precious souls.

 

4. 이 일에서 나의 목표는 무엇인가?

What are my ends in this work?

이것을 돈벌이의 수단으로 생각하지 않는다. 내 이름을 드러내기 위한 수단이나 파벌을 유지하기 위한 수단으로도 생각하지 않는다. 도리어 하나님의 영광과 영혼의 유익이 나의 목표이다.

Not taking it as a trade to live by; not to get myself a name, and to maintain a party; but aiming at the glory of God, and the good of souls.

 

5. 나는 무엇을 원하는가?

What do I want?

하나님께서 나의 마음을 그 일에만 집중하도록 고정하는 것, 지식, 말, 분별력의 은사를 주셔서 내가 이 일에 적합하게 되도록 하시는 것, 목회를 위한 은혜 특히 진실과 겸손을 주시는 것, 나에게 기회의 문을 열어주시는 것이다.

That God would fix my heart in dedication to the work; that he would be with me at my Ordination; that he would fit me for my work with the gifts of knowledge, utterance, and prudence; and with all Ministerial graces, especially sincerity and humility; and that he would open a door of opportunity to me.

 

6. 나의 결심은 무엇인가?

What are my resolutions?

죄와는 무관하게 되는 것, 복음에 순종해서 풍성하게 되는 것, 나의 재능을 사용하고, 진리를 견지하며, 나의 가족을 돌보고, 나의 양 떼를 감독하며, 반대를 견뎌나갈 때 나의 안수 서약을 기억하는 것.
