무명 여가수가 인기 절정을 구가하던 남편이자 동료 가수의 도움으로 스타덤에 오른다. 하지만 역설적이게도 아내의 인기와 反비례해서 남편의 인기는 끝없이 추락하고,  이를 견디지 못한 남편은 알코올 중독에서 급기야 자동차 사고로 목숨을 잃는다.  남편을 떠나보낸 아내는 자신을 출세시켜 준 남편의 영혼에  사랑을 보내 면서 부르는 노래가 「A Star Is Born」이다.
